Libyan officials have reported, according to the LA Times, that recently overthrown and murdered Libyan leader Muammar Qaddafi was worth over $200 Billion in bank accounts, real estate and foreign investments.
Most of this money came from his personal control over the largest oil fields in Africa over the past four decades.
If the estimates are verified, it means Qaddafi was worth nearly three times more than the world’s wealthiest man, Carlos Slim, and about four times more than Bill Gates and Warren Buffett, respectively.
I’m happy to say that this money is being redistributed equally to the entire Libyan population. Okay that was a lie; it will most likely be redistributed the wrong people (mainly, the U.S., and the other Western powers who invaded Libya), but either way the country’s better off without it in Qaddafi’s hands.
